Massage

Therapeutic massage therapy refers to the manipulation of soft tissues in the body to promote healing, relaxation, and overall well-being. It involves various techniques applied by registered massage therapists to address specific physical issues or to simply induce a sense of relaxation and stress relief.

oncology massage

Oncology massage is a modification of massage therapy techniques in order to safely work with the effects of cancer, and includes people in active treatments, recovery or survivorship.

Essential aspects of an oncology massage therapist’s skill set are an informed understanding of the side effects of cancer treatments, such as medications, surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.

Certain massage modifications will remain crucial even decades after treatment is complete.  When providing massage for someone who has a history of cancer treatment, primary massage considerations include, but are not limited to, bone integrity, vital organ involvement and compromised lymph nodes.

Fire cupping is a non-invasive treatment that uses Glass Cups to create a stronger suction to increase blood flow and relieve pain and inflammation, better than silicon cups. The amount of suction applied to each cup is always adjusted to suit each person.

An alcohol-soaked cotton ball on forceps is lit on fire and briefly inserted into a round glass cup and then quickly removed before the cup is placed immediately on the skin. The fire burns the oxygen inside the cup and creates a vacuum, which pulls the skin and tissue partially into the cup. The cups are left in place for several minutes, or moved across the skin, in which case oil is applied to the skin beforehand to make it easier to move the cup.  The fire never touches the skin; its purpose is to create the vacuum and to warm the cup prior to placing it on the skin.
